Three Aum’s for the Redbridge Hindu Community!

Redbridge borough, located in the north-east sub region of Greater London, is home to a diverse and lively community. The Hindu population of Redbridge is a little over 8% - by no means a majority, but with due respect representative of a very hardworking, welcoming and vibrant community.

So when a Jewish primary school soon to be vacated in Redbridge was opened up to bidding, I Foundation and the Hindu community ceased the opportunity to be able to share the thousands of years of teachings and philosophy that have made them such a hospitable and principle-led community, to give something back to the borough.

The transition, I believe, has come at a time when NHSF (UK) is at a peak in terms of its core activities thanks to Kajal Valani’s leadership and the former National Committees hard and strategised work over the past three years.

Reflection, Review and Forward-Looking

Looking back on a whole year of hard work and dedication fills me with not just happiness and a sense of success, but also raises questions about how this success can be built on. It also brings to mind what the future has in store for the organisation that we all love and have dedicated such a large part of our lives to. The NHSF (UK)AGM of 2011 provided both old and new with just such an opportunity and, on a personal level, was a reminder of not just all our successes, but also how to build upon that and take it further in the future.

Caste within the Single Equality Bill 2010

The Single Equality Bill proposed to the government has created many concerns amongst the Hindu community due to the fact that some lobby groups with vested 'anti Hindu' agenda are pressing to include caste discrimination within the bill. This is due to the fact that references used by these groups are targeted at Hindus and Hindu scriptures.
